FEATURES

This mask which holds several symbolic values and meanings has been created in a limited edition as part of the first collectible range “Mask of the Year” with “Dualities” as a theme: only 999 pieces provided with a certification stating their authenticity.

In perfect artistic harmony, Atelier Luce e Colore has enlisted the help of artisans who keep up the Italian Style and traditions.

This “papier maché” mask is hand painted with simple yet elegant decorations in black and white, symbols of duality; its gaze is enriched by macramé lace which adds elegance and beauty to this item, made lighter thanks to Swarowski crystals which help clear the mind.

Leandra Signoretto, Venetian origins and Swiss-Italian nationality, started getting interested in photography and historical dresses and costumes in the mid-80s. Her artistic path began in the 90s when she attended a photography course, “Donna Fotografa” held by Giuliana Traverso in Milano at “Galleria Il Diaframma”.

It’s actually using photography as a way of expressing feelings and making historical dresses and costumes that she started an evolutive journey within her own inner being, as well as the attentive observation of the material world which is made of images and human relationships, with the aim to see farther than what appearance wants to show us.

Switching from photography to interpretation was spontaneous; it let her combine and develop these two conceptual creative dimensions by experiencing them firsthand.

This personal and artistic life path led her to creating the “Mask of the year” which highlights the theme of duality, the concept of real inner hidden beauties.

For years Leandra has been taking part in the Venice Carnival with the masked characters she creates with a touch of genius, simplicity, elegance expressed with shapes,matching fabrics, colours (their main ingredient) which all get combined in harmony so that magic manages to transform these characters into play shows made of light and colour.

When creating her work of art, Leandra takes colours and atmospheres of the city she knows so well in great consideration.

Her mask appears in

The book "Emozione Colore” a timeless photo calendar by photographer Giuliano Casagrande who also photographed the ‘Mask of the Year’;

Magic Venice in Carnival” and “Le Carneval de Venise Histoire et Traditions” by Fulvio Roiter;

" Venise Masques et Beauté” by Vincent Botta;

Carnaval de Venise Regards Venetiens” by Cristophe Fouglè;

"Colori a Venezia", by Antonio Attini and many others and in artistic photos by photographers "Gianni La Motta", "Silvano Bonfà" and in photographical compositions by"lug68 Massimo Esposito".

Leandra herself appears dressed in her own historical costumes on postcards and calendars Fulvio Roiter and other photographers dedicated to the Venice Carnival.

She took part in several international events creating magic choreographies with her costumes and masks for photography exhibitions and shows in:

  • Germany(Bank Kreissparkasse Zeven, Bremen, 1990)
  • Switzerland – Zürich 1999 (forum Zugerland in Steinhausen) exhibition by Antonio Montemurro.
  • In 1991 she got 1st prize at the international photography contest “Maschera d’argento” in Abano Terme, Italy.
  • She was a guest in Campione d’Italia, Switzerland during the event “Maschere d’autore”.
  • In Piedmont, Italy in 2003 she and some friends all wearing costumes were invited as foreign representatives of the Venetian Carnival.

She also took part in remarkable theatre plays. On the island of Tinos, Greece in 2000, Leandra and the mime Arnaldo Febbrini, showed their several costumes as part of the choreography for a classical Greek music show.
