ITINERARYREQUIREMENTS AND ENTRANCE FEESEXPO SPORT

Venice Marathon Venice Marathon, named ‘the great classical of autumn’ by the experts, is a sports event able to gather, along 42,195 kilometres, more than six thousand participants coming from all over the world. Much more than a race, much more than a sports show.

The Venetian 42 Kilometres was born twenty one years ago because of the wish to test the compatibility between the most loved and fragile town in the world and the most classical and charming sports deed, in the firm belief that, from such enterprise, another umpteenth way of interpreting Venice as well as of living a marathon could be generated. Since 1986, the year of the first edition, with 713 participants (yet a relevant number for the Italian walking movement of those days) the Venice Marathon has developed from a quality and quantity points of view and the results can be seen by everybody.
In the golden album of the Venice Marathon some renowned names of  Italian athletics  have crossed the finishing line: Salvatore Bettiol during the first two editions of 1986 and 1987, in 1988 Orlando Pizzolato won, who had also been twice the winner of the New York Marathon; two years later Gelindo Bordin, Olympic Champion in Seul. In 1995 Danilo G    offi won before a Stefano Baldini.

ITINERARY

The itinerary is a consolidated one. The scenery from the departure will see the competitors start their efforts from the marvellous Villa Pisani in Stra in order to cross the magnificent Brenta Riviera, namely the holiday resort during the memorable events of the Serenissima, passing, then, before the beautiful Palladian villas. The runners reach Venice through the long Libertà Bridge, which join the town to the dry land.
After crossing the Canal Grande on a bridge made of boats 160 metres long (prepared just for this occasion), the competitors pass by St. Marc Square and go towards Riva dei Sette Martiri, where the finishing line has been placed, in a panoramic position on the lagoon.
It is not a mystery that running the marathon is really an enterprise, but the Venice Marathon can join effort (of the race) to pleasure (of the place) as well as to amusement (of side events): Venice is a magic town for its uniqueness and enchanting for its historical and architectural vistas, surely an atypical and original place where to prepare relevant sports events. By means of its marathon, besides its features, the lagoon town can add a rich programme of events which involve the dry land, ranging from the Brenta Riviera, faced by the Veneto villas of the sixteenth century, which were the summer holiday resorts of the Venetian nobles, to Marghera, the cathedral of chemistry and of the industrial development, which changes its look, passing, then, through Mestre, the younger sister of the historical Venice, nonetheless, by now, endowed with its own social and urban identity.
