Civic Museum of the Eremitani, Padua

Until 28th March 2010 you will have the opportunity of visiting the exhibition ‘Caravaggio Lotto Ribera. Four centuries of masterpieces’ at the Civic Museum of the Eremitani, in Padua. It is a great exhibition with more than fifty masterpieces representing not only Italian and European painting but also the artistic tastes of one of the greatest Italian critics such as Roberto Longhi. The artworks, in fact, come from the Roberto Longhi Foundation of Florence and the exhibition, in fact, wants to pay homage to his great collecting adventure. Roberto Longhi, who was defined as a ‘Master’ by Paolini, became famous for having arranged, in Italy, the first great exhibition about Caravaggio in 1951. And the most interesting section of the exhibition is, perhaps, that one dealing with the Seventeenth century and in particular the well-known ‘Little boy bitten by the green lizard’, by Caravaggio. As far as the displaying itinerary as a whole is concerned, it goes throughout different centuries: from the Thirteenth century to the painting from Bologna of the Fourteenth century until the Seventeenth century. Among the most relevant artworks of the Fifteenth and Sixteenth centuries, there are, with no doubts, the ones by Dosso Dossi and Lorenzo Lotto (See the gallery).
‘Dante’s Hell’ is the theme of the twelfth edition of the International Festival of sand sculpures which started last Friday evening in Jesolo, like every year, on the sandy beach near Piazza Brescia. This year visitors will be led through a guided tour in the Hell circles, going back over Dante’s journey as far as the exit, to see the stars back again. The artists who have realized such majestic and ‘hellish’ sand artworks are: Dan Belcher (Usa), Damon Farmer (Usa), Brad Goll (Usa), Ray Villafane (Usa), John Gowdy (Usa) Karen Fralich (Usa), Alexey Shchitov (Russia) Vladimir Kuraev (Russia), Katsuhiko Chean (Japan), Radek Zivney (Rep.
The exhibition Mimmo Paladino at Villa Pisani is set in the magnificent Villa and in the garden, which will be a sort of prestigious stage for the sculptures and paintings of the Italian artist, along a magnificent tour showing the most charming corners of Villa Pisani, from Tiepolo’s room, to the Stables, from the Orangery to the Coffee House and to the wonderful Maze of hedges, one of the few still preserved in Europe.
The artist planned a tour with more than seventy masterpieces, from the well-known “Dormienti ai Sette Scudi”, from the tower in terra cotta, to the statues exhibited at the MART (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) in Rovereto, besides those expressly developed for this exhibition. He is the author of the famous salt mountain in Plebiscito Square in Naples, of the mosaic for Ara Pacis in Rome and of the permanent installation at the Hortus Conclusus in Benevento, where his works combine in a harmonic contraposition with fragments of Roman columns, capitals and broken gables. In his thirty-year career Paladino developed a timeless sign language, able to have a profound contact with the heritage of the past. Horses in essential stark lines, human shapes waiting, details suggesting cultures and environments of the most ancient and profound Italic civilization, form the lexicon of his works used by the artist to enhance the mysterious and charming atmosphere of the baroque garden of Villa Pisani.

This year the plan for the rearrangement of the whole area will start: it is a rearrangement that will certainly concern the gaming house too.
Within 2009 Tessera is starting works for a stadium with thirty-thousand covered seats and annexed shops, trade areas, restaurants and a brand-new Las Vegas-style casino as well as a hotel with at least 350 rooms. Such buildings will be connected by a bridge and the calls for bids for the assignment of the construction of the two edifices will be shortly assigned – the Mayor of Venice Massimo Cacciari has assured. Thanks to these interventions at last the new gaming house will be able to compete seriously with the one at Nova Gorica. The total maquillage of the area of Tessera envisages works on more than two million square metres of ground.

15th March – 29th June 2008

The exhibition, that will open on 15th March 2008, is organized at the Palazzo della Ragione in Verona and it testifies, by means of paintings, glassware and photos from the Collection of Venice Foundation, the one-hundred-year-old relationship between Venice and the Biennale.
It is a story represented by about fifty paintings, among which the works by Boccioni and the Ciardis, De Pisis and Carena, Casorati and Depero, Cagnaccio of San Pietro and Marussig, Vedova and Santomaso, Pizzinato, Tancredi and Plessi stand out.
A story rich in art events, cultural arguments, political revolutions and even sensational scandals, since the foundation, which took place in 1895, of the greatest Italian cultural institute, able to involve, every two years, more than 70 foreign countries, going through the ‘noisy’ arrival of the Futurists in Venice in 1910, the explosion of the America Pop Art in 1964, the student protest of ’68, the statutory renewal of 1973, until the events of our days.
The exhibition itinerary is made up also of about thirty Murano glassworks, placed in the historical Venetian Pavillion, among which we can find, beside those of legendary glassworkers, the works of well-known artists and designers such as Tapio Wirkkala, Carlo Scarpa and Paolo Venini. This exhibition opens with a selection of photos of the greatest protagonists of the art of the Twentieth century, who are often portrayed at work during the organization of their exhibitions at the Biennale; these photos derive from the photographer Graziano Arici’s archives and De Maria’s ones, of Venice Foundation.
Opening time: from Tuesday to Sunday 9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
Close on Mondays, except 24th March and 2nd June 2008
