A Bit of Lagoon for Columbus Day: a gondola along the Hudson River.
8th October 2007

An American expedition 260 kilometers long composed of six stops along the Hudson River. It will be on board the most typical Venetian boat that the sixty year old champion Vittorio Orio, who is already known for enterprises conjugating sport and solidarity, will bring a bit of lagoon to the Columbus Day, planned on the 8th October. The departure is arranged for the first October from Albany and it will bring the Venetian gondolier and his three mates to the Ground Zero in New York. Such expedition plans to row a traditional four-oar gondola, built in 2000, for 55 miles. All that with six stops: the team will stop in six towns rising along the Hudson River, in order to bring a new message of solidarity to the United States and to collect the funds to be assigned to charitable initiatives. At any stop, a meeting with the local authorities will be arranged, in order to convey a friendship message to America from Venice and all Italy and above all with the aim of calling attention to charitable initiatives they will try to carry out, such as the raising of funds for financial aids to be given to the orphans of the firemen who died during the crash of the Twin Towers.
